Analysis of English Textbooks Used in Taiwan: A Perspective of English as a Lingua Franca

This study examines English textbooks used in Taiwanese junior high schools (Grades 7 to 9) from the perspective of as a lingua franca (ELF) and with regard national curriculum. In this study, that are currently Taiwan were examined based on an analysis framework featuring ELF attributes. These attributes proposed enumerated light previous studies revealed partially reflected manifestation different extent. Moreover, it demonstrated ELF-oriented content was displayed various forms activities exercises (e.g., listening, reading, writing, discussion) subject matter units covered wide range topics. research results, author provides suggestions for design at school level, such promoting learners’ awareness ELF, encouraging development intercultural communication strategies learners, considering experiences learning English, entailing meaningful learners.
